CELEBRATION OF DECEMBER 20

 

 The festival of December 20th: the tradition and the history of Reunion Island put at the honor.

 

It is the celebration of the abolition of slavery. This year, the town of Saint-Paul organizes the weekend before (on 16th and 17th) a great demonstration, making it possible all associations to celebrate, in their districts, the festival of freedom on December 20.

The festival of December 20, organized by the Town of Saint-Paul, in partnership with nearly 30 associations in Saint Paul, the Office of Tourism of Saint-Paul, the SEDRE, Semto and the Balneal SEM, celebrates the abolition of slavery in Reunion Island .

 

Many activities are proposed to you: visit” old time” village, made up of 30 traditional huts, exposures, tasting, natural size reconstitution, on the beach of the unloading, procession, concerts (See programs hereafter).

 

The festival of freedom wants to be to be a cultural and social window which enables you to immerse yourselves fully in the life in Reunion Island . In this spirit, the Office of Tourism invites you to discover the tale from Reunion which frightens everyone… Plunge in the universe of Gran' Mère Kal and her accomplice Sat Marron. Objects, character, decoration, environment, emotion… all will be joined together to make you travel in the past! Creole moms will tell you the history of this grandmother who had lost her grandson…
